"Ms. Breton has penned a taut and exciting thriller that is laced with both romance and danger!"
--Romantic Times on Black Widow
A hot North Carolina summer. A small Southern town rife with secrets. A burned-out cop and a beautiful ex-con determined to find her husband's killer. When Kathryn McAllister is released from prison, she returns to Elba, North Carolina, and sets out to track down whoever really killed Michael McAllister. She isn't exactly welcomed with open arms. Michael was the town's fair-haired child, and the citizens of Elba aren't happy about having a convicted murderer in their midst. Not even one whose sentence was overturned. But Kat is determined to find out the truth.
Which is where police chief Nick DeSalvo comes in. Nick, a recently transplanted Northerner, is jaded and world-weary. He's seen it all, and in his job as a New York City cop, nobody was ever guilty of anything. So why should he believe the lovely young widow when she says she was set up? Kathryn McAllister might have great legs, but she's a thorn in Nick DeSalvo's side, and he has no intention of helping her.
Until the file on the McAllister homicide turns up missing, and a series of incidents convinces Nick that Kat is telling the truth. As they explore the town's dark underbelly, unaware that a killer is watching their every move, the passion between them flares and ignites. Somewhere in the midst of that tangled web of secrecy and deceit lies the truth. But will they find it before it's too late?

AND MY LATEST FROM MIRA BOOKS:
"Don't plan to go to bed early!"
--Romantic Times on Point of Departure
An unoccupied mansion in Boston's Back Bay.
A missing Realtor.
An unidentified corpse.
What do they all have in common? That's what Boston Homicide Detective Doug Policzki has to figure out.
When beautiful blond Realtor Kaye Winslow goes missing, leaving behind her briefcase, her Blackberry, and one very dead John Doe, Policzki must try to piece together the puzzle. But there are more questions than answers. Who is the dead man, and what brought him to the Commonwealth Avenue mansion where Winslow had an appointment with a potential buyer? Where is the missing Realtor? And most important of all: is Kaye Winslow a clever killer...or an innocent victim?
Although the clues lead directly to Kaye's husband, Professor Sam Winslow, Policzki isn't completely convinced. Winslow is definitely hiding something, but is it related to murder? Or is the good professor just another victim in somebody's deadly game?
And then there's Mia DeLucca, Sam's sister and Kaye's business partner. Not for a minute does Mia believe her brother is guilty of anything more sinister than academic tunnel vision. A lot of people don't like Kaye. Any one of them could have killed her...or set her up for murder.
As Mia begins her own investigation, she keeps butting heads with Policzki. The guy is just too bossy. And too good-looking. And definitely too young. But when she uncovers evidence that could destroy her life--or end it--she has no choice but to trust the hotshot young detective.
